Jeff Ballard?

i was watching chick corea in a jazz concert in latin america, or was it cuba? it was a pbs program and it was great alot of great jazz artist. then i happened to watch chick corea with his trio. everyone was great. this trio was burnin! (i already forgot the bassist's name - shame on me!) somehow i happen to see the drummers name with chick as the credits were racing by. his name was jeff ballard. has anyone else heard of him? his intensity, confidence, facility and creative interpretations definitely made me take notice. sorta like a young joey baron but he's got his own thing happening as well.

Jeff has been playing with Brad Mehldau recently, and they are going to release a CD soon that should be interesting.

I saw Jeff with Chick in las Vegas a few years ago ( my own gig was delayed a few minutes because the hole band was there and we couldn't leave the place until the last note [img]redface.gif[/img] ).
It was just before the recording of his only studio CD (can't remember the name right now). They were sight reading some pieces and they sounded amazing.

Ya, jeff ballard is wicked....his playing on the chick corea trio cd "past, Present, futures" is awesome...I know that he plays with guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkle aswell.

Jeff Ballard is one of today's best jazz drummers. He's also in Joshua Redman's elastic band, and he plays with Claudia Acuna.

His phrasing is unbelievable. Lot's of bop in his approach, but so modern. I saw Jeff with Diane Shuure years ago. He's amazing.

I saw him with Chick and Cohen on bass on BET Jazz Rendevous in NY. Def has some good vocab. Oops don't take that too deep guys!

Anyway Rendevous in NY is comin' out 8/20/05. 10 discs and almost 10 hrs of footage at a cost of $80. Haynes, Gadd , Weckl, and Ballard on drums!!!
